Which Social Bookmarking Sites do you use?

I guess this post is really a two parter. I've talked to some of you about trying to organize the Higher Ed Web community in a Social Bookmarking manner and am attempting to take a Stab using Mixx. I've created a group today that is for submitting Social Bookmarks worthy to be shared with the Higher Education Community. If this is something that your interested in then head on over and join the High Ed Web group on Mixx. It's setup as invitation and approval only, but I promise we won't not allow anyone in. If you don't know anything about Mixx then the first thing I submitted to the group is an article about Mixx.

Secondly I'm curious about what Social Bookmarking sites Higher Education people use. I'm probably on and use too many, but what do others use? I'll go first.

Digg (though it's getting less and less), Del.icio.us, Mixx, StumbleUpon, and Sphinn.

Mostly I just use Del.icio.us. I use Digg for promoting me and my friends' sites mostly, I don't actively do anything there otherwise. I can only keep up with so much. Del.icio.us is convenient with my FF plugin and all that.

Agreed. I find that Del.icio.us is very convenient when I want to quickly tag and mark something for consumption later. Also helpful when I see a page or two to send to someone else but don't want to have to cut, paste, email, etc...

I use delicious. the k-12 ed tech community has been raving about Diigo for the last two weeks. I'm not in on it yet.

I also use del.icio.us.

Kyle - are the features and functionality of Mixx different than del.icio.us? One of the things I'd like to do with this site is add social bookmarking functionality. I'm pulling in the del.icio.us feed with items tagged "uwebd" on the home page, but it's not the best approach because of issues with "tag spam".

The features and Functionality of Mixx are definitely much different than del.icio.us. If I had to describe Mixx I would say that it takes elements of del.icio.us (tagging and popular) and digg (voting, shouts, categories) and introduces a whole slew of new features. You can vote stories down, there is the option to create groups and only submit stories to a group and only those votes count. There are also comments. One of the additional things that Mixx has done that Digg never did and got lots of flack from the community is they have Super users. These are the most active users in the community and they are given some additional admin privileges to keep the community clean and active.

I guess the best thing I can say is read this article Forget digg: Join Mixx Where You Can Still Become A Power User which I submitted to the group. It kind of explains in more detail some of the aspects of the community.

What is definitely unique about the experience is the group features. For example I'm in a few groups, High Ed Web, Social Media Mavens, Fantasy Baseball, SEO 2.0, and Social Media Consultants. This provides me with two benefits. When I submit stories I'm allowed to submit to these groups which other members are sent an email that something has been submitted. Secondly I'm getting content shared that is much more likely to be relavent to what I care about and ultimately more interesting to me. It's really a win win. Granted the emails can get overwhelming, but with Gmail one of the really nice features is the way that it stacks these emails so if five things have been submitted to the group since last time I checked my email I only get one email with lots of 'posts' in it.

I use del.icio.us. I've looked at Magnolia but since I started with delicious first, I haven't changed because there is no reason to.

I digg and fark articles but that's more for promotion.

I just made some changes to eduStyle profiles that lets you put links to various social networking sites on your profile over there. The interesting part though is that I also put together a page that pulls all of that information from all of the users together into one page. Kind of like a directory of higher-ed people on the social networking/bookmarking sites. I have had delicious links in profiles for a long time so there is a bunch of those listed but it should be interesting to watch this page as people add more links to their profiles.
