So most likely everyone is in the same boat I'm in. People think that because it's almost summer time that we chill out and take it easy... YEAH RIGHT! Summer is when we actually get to work on projects for the website because there aren't a million distractions with little updates and so in so has this super important thing that needs to go up.

So anyways what projects are people working on this summer? This is sort of an open thread, but I'm curious about new technologies people are introducing or site initiatives.

I'll even do the honor of going first:

1. Major project to pushing the Academics section of the site with a marketing push toward projective students.
2. Revamping video player to videos to have more control over channels and access. Possibly looking at other streaming options and player functionality.
3. Site Audit
4. Spring cleaning (or I guess it's more appropriate to call it summer cleaning). Updating photography, SEO tightening the whole site, perfecting CSS and increasing site usability.

That was actually helpful to get the planning of the summer under way. :)

So really nothing revolutionary, just making everything we have better and cleaner.

This summer I'm working on developing a work flow for moving faculty created content into our iTunes U site. While at the same time, starting our iTunes U web site.
Since I've only been on the job 2 months, I'm just now getting thick into our redesign. My summer will be spent completing the design concept, and starting to code the site once the design is approved. We hope to launch the redesign in September, but that's a pretty narrow timeline for a complete overhaul of the website. We currently have over 11,000 pages that will need to be redone. We aren't currently using a CMS, so every page will get special attention from myself...Lucky me.
I'll pray for you... been there done that two summers ago. Luckily we were also migrating to a CMS so it will neer be quite the same nightmare again.
A lot of routine stuff...

- Upgrading PHP/MySQL to latest stable version
- Reinstall Wordpress-MU using svn to make updates not suck (if you work with wordpress and can install using svn, it makes upgrading EXTREMELY convenient...one command and you're done)
- Continue migrating departments to CMS/New Design (fortunately, we have summer student workers so they get to do most of the copy/pasting)
- Finish migrating students to GAFYD
- Move servers to VMWare
Hmm... Redesigning Admissions, upgrading CMS, new servers... that should keep me busy through June ;) Our last CMS upgrade was a nightmare so I am reserving lots of testing time for this one.
Converting sites out of old templates into new templates will eat up most of my time. The new templates are much more accessible, validate to w3c and css standards (at least the ones I convert), and contain analytics in each page to give us much mo' better reporting.

Also, a bunch more smaller things that pop in an out as well.
