University Web Developers

Below is an e-mail from Lance Merker, the President/CEO of OmniUpdate with a proposal for this site. Given this is a community site, it's only appropriate that the members decide on this proposal. Please provide your feedback by this Friday (May 16).

We at OmniUpdate would like to give a free coffee mug with the University Web Developers emblem to all 700+ subscribers of the ning group. The proposition in simple. We would like to replace the google ads on the right side of the page with the attached banner. The banner (and the free mug offer) would remain for one year. We'll pay all the costs to remove the google ads, and pay for the mugs and shipping to members who request one during the year.

That's it. We won't replace the banner with any advertising nor put our advertising on the mugs!

Members of the group get a symbol of their association with the social network -- hopefully building some camaraderie and group spirit -- and we get brand recognition from the sponsorship.

Regards,

Lance

Who doesn't need more coffee mugs... seems like a decent trade from where i sit in idaho.

Great idea! I'm not really that aware of who OmniUpdate is anyway. And I usually follow UWebD traffic in email anyway. So this site deserves more recognition, and I'll happily provide it whenever I am sipping from the cool mug they're going to send us! :-)

Sounds good to me. That ad would fit better than the "Philly Events Calendar" I'm currently seeing from Google.

Ads are ads. No problem there...it's not like we have a say in the Google Ads that currently run on the site.

As far as the mugs go, would they continue to use the mailing address to send product literature? If so, I would opt-out of the mug offer. We already have a WCMS here at Chico and we're not looking for another one any time soon.

As I review admissions pages and applications, I've discovered there are few admissions pages that have an easy to find call to action to apply. The norm seems to be scanning a lot of text to find the "to apply" choice.

John, Not sure if you've seen this already, but check out Common Admissions Application. Looks like a number of higher ed schools across the country use it.
