Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to display our college's Twitter Feed (http://twitter.com/newpaltz) within our official Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Paltz-NY/SUNY-New-Paltz/5659124699), or at least an app that will allow me to embed Flash code that Twitter will give me to display our badge?

I've found Flash embed app's for personal profiles, but not for Pages yet. I have a vague recollection of reading about the ability to incorporate Flash into Facebook in recent months, but don't recall if that was for personal profiles or Facebook Pages, or where I read this.

Have you looked into using the Notes feature on Facebook pages? You can import an XML feed for a Page using this feature. The one major drawback is that you can only do it with one XML feed. So if you had two people twittering, you could only use the Notes feature for one of them.

Also, it updates automatically and is pretty quick about pulling in new items from the feed.
I found that ping.fm updates both Twitter ( @kfryda ) and FB status with brutal efficiency - I unknowingly posted some very odd status updates after I started using it. (I later realized that Ping.fm allows you to choose between using your standard distribution list or changing it, in case you want to add or avoid some channels with an update.)

But Twitter symbols, slang, hashtags, conversations, etc. aren't FB-friendly, especially since so many people don't know what Twitter is. And Twitter users expect to engage personally, even if they're interacting with an institutional account. Although some do use it for RSS, that's considered an old-media approach and sometimes derided as spam. FB pages, on the other hand, are expected to be corporate.

If you have the ability to customize your posts, you might want to use Ping.fm for both, but write slightly more conversational posts to Twitter (and internally-directed networks), more formal posts to Facebook (and LinkedIn and other more institutional networks).
In case it helps: Prominent social media blogger Rohit Bhargava wrote about how to get the best institutional bang for your buck out of Twitter: http://rohitbhargava.typepad.com/weblog/2008/12/the-5-stages-of.html

Good luck!
