To what professional orgs do you belong? Are you members of web orgs as well as marketing orgs?

Just trying to see what my peers are doing.
Thanks!

Hi Susan -

We belong to CASE, and participate in their listservs. Also UWebD listserv. We speak often at CASE, American Marketing Association, National Association of College Admission Counselors, National Association of Graduate Admission Professionals, and Graduate Management Admission Council events.

Beyond these industry-oriented organizations, we do a lot of reading/participating in more functional virtual organizations -- YPulse, A List Apart, Clickz, etc. all seem to be great resources for our work.

Let me know if you want me to screen capture a list of RSS feeds, etc.
Thanks for the info! A list of RSS feeds would be very helpful.
My email is susan.ragland@tccd.edu
Member of CASE and CNAC (College News Association of the Carolinas); lurk here and on the uwebd listserv; resubscribe (and then unsubscribe when I just can't keep up with all the messages) to several other listservs; most of my "real life" stuff comes from RSS feeds (compiled, and continually updating, at http://www.netvibes.com/newsace#Higher_Ed_Marketing_%2F_Graphic_Arts).
Mike,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I'm not sure if others just aren't a part of professional orgs or don't want to respond. :-)

I'm thinking of joining PRSA, but I'd rather be a part of a web developers' org. Ideally, there'd be a prof org out there for higer ed web people (much like this site, but a professional org).

My employer encourages us to be a part of a professional organization for enrichment: they even pay our dues!
HighEdWeb is trying to become the higher ed web professional organization: take a look at their about us as well as their bylaws [pdf].

They've got their board of directors in place, but haven't opened membership yet, to my knowledge.
Thanks for the info. I'll definitely check out that site.
we are part of CASE and PRSA. i personally subscribe/participate in several web based things. i think a lot of people are part of orgs but do more participating through listservs, google groups and other things like that.
Thank you for the insight.
Hey Susan have you seen HighEdWeb? They run a big annual conference and you can join by email. I haven't actually been to their conference it yet, but I've been told that it's one of the best for Higher Ed Web People and have every plan of making it this fall.

Another one is Higher Ed Experts which is an extension of CollegeWebEditor and probably worth checking out. They run lots of professional development webcast throughout the year so it's easy to find one that fits your needs.

Now thinking about it I did put together a page of Resources For Higher Education Web Marketing that you might want to check out. Hope that helps.
Kyle, thank you! All of these resources are great.
Just out of curiosity, what would you want out of a professional organization? What would be worth the price of admission?
