We've been experimenting with youtube as a platform for hosting our university videos and films. The pull towards it was the reach that it potentially gives us . How is everyone else getting along with it?
I've seen quite a few athletics related videos from several colleges on YouTube that are basically montages of a season. But it sounds like they use copyrighted music as a soundtrack. I've had this problem with our own athletics dept creating videos, using copyrighted music and posting them to their own accounts. I'd like to use the videos on our official channel as well, but don't want to deal with the legal issues.
It seems like the worst that can happen is having YouTube pull the video in rare cases, but I'd rather not take any chances. Aside from paying ridiculous amounts of money to license songs, what are some practical alternatives for video soundtracks?
We sort of just jumped right into hosting videos on YouTube. Marketing our school on our channel is our primary priority, but we do help other departments and areas to create their own channels and/or put up their own content, if their video or slide show is not in keeping with our main priority.
