Master List of 3rd Party Sites that Claim Authentic Source of Information About Colleges

So I was reading Paul Redfern's post about Unigo and his list of other 3rd party sites that claim to provide authentic user generated content and thought this would be a great question to pose to this group.

So pulling from Paul's post and the few I added here's what I've got so far.

http://www.unigo.com/
http://www.collegeprowler.com/
http://studentsreview.com/
http://www.campuscompare.com/
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/
http://www.ratemyprofessor.com/
http://www.zinch.com/
http://www.communiversity.com/
http://www.collegeclicktv.com/
http://youniversity.tv/

What are we missing guys? A nice list of all these resources could be very beneficial to all of us.

I guess we could always throw the YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn into this discussion, but that really seems to easy.

Are we talking community sites, or are we talking "official use" sites?

The one I most often hear from students is http://www.collegeboard.com.

Since The College Board produces the SAT test, it's a pretty natural resource, and relatively "official." Which is all the more discouraging when they get some of our info wrong.

Since you mentioned it I think we probably should include those also. Kind of like a list of College Web Marketing 101 sites that you should know about.

Although these are more like College Rankings and Assessment sites
Although I'm sure a lot of us don't agree with a lot of them it's still important to know what all is out there.

Kyle, thanks for compiling this list. It will be a great resource. Any advice on which ones students use the most?

Just read in Inside Higher Ed this morning that the Education Conservancy is working on "an explicitly anti-rankings system for the college search" called College Speaks. A prototype was shown at NACAC Thursday (Sept. 25). Wonder if anyone in this group caught that presentation and if so, what did you think?

This topic has come up for discussion again on my campus. Any other sites to add to the list?

Well there was http://ratemycollege.us/ for a while but it then merged into the CollegeTimes site:

http://reviews.collegetimes.us/

College Prowler was the other was I was going to mention but looks like someone linked it.

I refer to this list often and was wondering if there is anything new to add, and what people's thoughts are on the various sites. Which ones should we really be paying attention to?

I avoid US based servers for personal information, and try to keep all PII on-campus or at least on Canadian servers. The requesting IP number in GA data could be personally identifying in some cases, but I'm not very concerned. I work at a small c…
