We're looking for an image rotator that we can use that will import in pictures from either a directory or an XML file (preferred), and will also allow us to lay our own custom skin on it. We've been trying to do this, without success, with the JW Image Rotator at http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_Image_Rotator

I was even thinking maybe getting crazy, shutting off the controls in the flash file so it's just a naked image rotator, then positioning a div on top of the flash file that has the "skin" in it, and link image navigation through the Javascript API for the player.

Anyone wrangled with this or otherwise have thoughts or suggestions?

When I was at CFCC we used SlideShowPro, and SlideShowPro Director with much success. Very inexpensive, and easy to use.

As far as customizing the look, it's very easy to do, and actually very easy to manipulate simple properties such as controls (or lack thereof), colors, etc...

It uses XML, Flash, and MySQL if you decide to go with the Director addon (which i HIGHLY recommend).

Great user forum as well.

You can see an example of how we implemented it on the front page of http://cfcc.edu

It seems SlideshowPro is getting a lot of recommendations. I think we're definitely going to look into that one.

Here's another recommendation for SlideShowPro... I like it, it's slick, inexpensive and easy to use.

Yeah SSP is really nice here is another has the same basic funtionality, it is free http://www.dezinerfolio.com/2007/06/07/dfgallery/ I dont believe it has Director like SSP.

Another one that is a little less know than SSP is monoslideshow. Very similar functionality as well.

wow...smooth for sure. I mean most of it is a complete ripoff design wise of slideshowpro, but it is very awesome that it is JS, and you don't have to use Flash. Tagging this for sure.

Wonder how it does with CSS, or JavaScript disabled...

I love SSP. I've also used the Couloir.org script when Flash wasn't a good option.

SSP, the AS3 version is very customizable. SSP Director is cheap, easy to install, and the users like it. Director generates an xml file so it's easy to set up slideshows to show the captions outside of the SSP extension.
