I'm an early adopter and at first it was just a novelty. Now I'm starting to build a couple of networks and finding it very useful for news, information and sharing ideas. It also occurs to me that, right now anyway, people either 'get' twitter and love it or they are almost vehement in their criticism. I created a Lynchburg College twitter account: http://twitter.com/lynchburg . I figured, better to have the account in case twitter proves to be as long lasting as something like Facebook or YouTube and we start officially maintaining the feed.
I haven't sat down and thought through how successful a social network has to get before it is worth reserving our name on it.
