I have been commissioned to redesign and reimplement our ITS web site. Right now it's pretty lame: www.roberts.edu/its/

I am looking for some input. We want this to be helpful to prospective students, parents as well as current students, faculty and staff.

Have you seen any really great ITS web sites that you would be willing to share? Also, any pitfalls to avoid? Areas to focus on?

I'd love to get your input.. thanks a bunch!

I like this one University of Texas
If anyone has any "use cases" that they created for developing such a web site that would be a super bonus!
I think IT Websites are usually overflowing with lists of services and tools they offer with little explanatory information. With new users in mind, I'd try to offer more information up front. Awhile ago I was working with someone from our ITS group on ways to do this. We came up with a few sample pages, then she left the university.

What we wanted to do was organize the content by use and provide descriptions of what was available in language that would be clear to techies and non-techies alike. Here are a few of those prototypes.

Good luck with the project!
Thank you Heidi, I like the plain language idea... very important especially to incoming students who don't know the lingo of your particular campus. We have things like "IQ web" and "H Drive" that really are meaningless until you've been integrated into the campus community (and even then who knows).

The only feedback I would give you is that the descriptions seem a little long. I would shoot for something short, sweet, clear, bold and easy to scan.

Thanks again.
Find out what the common calls are to ITS and try to answer those questions with the ITS site. The trick is getting users to use the site instead of making those calls. If you figure that out let me know.
Yes, good idea, I will be meeting with the respective heads of IT areas to see what those inquries are, I will try to post back some of my findings to this thread.

Here are some IT Sites that I've found.. The Duke one appears to be especially well put together:

http://its.unc.edu/

Well I've interviewed many of the steakholding departments and developed this content relevance matrix. It tries to determine what the questions are and who they are relevant to.

I've made the Excel file available for download on my blog:

If you think of other questions that should be included or have some feedback on the data collection methodology please leave your thought here or on my blog.
