As a small community college with limited resources, I am a one man show here when it comes to anything for the website. Being more of a web programmer/developer then web designer I have a question. When it comes to deciding your web colors, is there a specific color library to use? The Marketing department has given me three colors, white, and two Pantone colors for the blue and red. I open up PhotoShop and there sits about 15 different versions of Pantone. So what is the best color library to use, and does anybody know of a Pantone to hex color conversion chart. I have tried different sites and the colors that the Marketing department has given me are different from the Pantone website conversion charts. For example, the Pantone Blue they gave me converts to a dark blue/purple color. So I could use some help and suggestions from the higher ed web community with strong designer type backgrounds. Thanks in advance to everyone for your help.

The Pantone colors that you were given should have a number value with them. Use that value in Photoshop's built in color picker. You can use that to convert to a hex value that you can use for the web.

I would be more concerned about being consistent with the colors you use. Given that the Marketing Department gave you colors, they should also relate well with each other. Small tweaks like brightness and saturation to make them work when displayed on the screen would probably be acceptable.

Hope that helps some.

Excellent info Katy!!! That is what my thought was but not having a strong graphic design background I did not know for sure. So basically the PRINT colors can be different than the WEB colors.
Thanks so much for your help.
