Communications Specialist - Web Designer/Content Coordinator/Social Media Expert

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri, is looking for an enterprising and entrepreneurial individual to work as part of a dynamic, friendly, collaborative and supportive integrated communications team. This position creates, builds, and maintains the visual identity and content navigation architecture for Missouri S&T websites. Develops and manages website copy and graphic content for top-level and centrally managed pages, targeted department pages, and multimedia assets. Coordinates and provides content for social media and e-communications. The position provides consultation and guidance to departments and offices in planning and creating new web content, social media content and maintaining existing content.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field (or education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skill can be obtained is necessary) and two to three years of experience designing and building web and other digital media (html email), web user interface design, navigation architecture, website management and web content development.

Talented designer utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite and additional interaction design skills (information architecture and user interface design) is essential.

Working knowledge of html5 and css3.

Online examples of web work and/or online portfolio is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Positive, creative and passionate web designer with an eye for the unique and progressive. This designer is comfortable working with groups, teams and individually, and displays a great attitude and inquisitive vision. This position has the ability to work effectively and professionally with individuals from a variety of backgrounds with varying levels of knowledge about web content and design. Sense of humor is a plus.

Experience in creating compelling online visual design; demonstrated ability to apply creative design principles in the production of engaging web content.

Excellent web writing and editing skills; strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience in writing for the web.

Understanding of social media environments (social networks, blogs, and broadcast email) including knowledge of their strengths and possibilities.

Strong web production skills including understanding of and experience with HTML, Javascript, CSS as well as experience using standard web editing and graphic design tools and multimedia production tools. Knowledge, use and/or awareness of responsive design using HTML5 and CSS. Demonstrated experience as an advanced-level user or administrator of a web content management system is desired.

Proven success in managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, adapting quickly to changing priorities, while maintaining great attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional skill sets in videotaping and production/editing. Experience with Final Cut Pro (or similar software), video script creation/writing, print graphic design and photography are desired. Experience creating infographics, interactive graphics and interactive pdf's are a plus.

Experience working in a web communications, communications, public relations, news media and/or marketing environment, particularly in a higher education setting.
