After a very interesting HigherEdLive on crisis communications this Sunday, I was wondering where do you have your backup or "Dark" sites.
We currently have an alert message on our homepage in the event of a minor emergency e.g., classes canceled due to weather.
We have a very cumbersome off-site solution in the event our site went down e.g., technical failure from heavy traffic or natural disaster.
I also thought we should have an in-between site, basically redirecting our entire site to an emergency blog should the event be severe enough that we wouldn't want students/staff visiting any other pages during the crisis.
Anyone have emergency response plans they can share or info on the technology of their dark site?
We have a blog already configured that will provide information during a crisis on campus. The plan is to redirect our .edu site to that blog as the blog and the server it resides on can handle the increased traffic we anticipate during a crisis.
