We are looking to get into Email Marketing and I've been assigned the task of finding a good program. I hear a lot about Constant Contact, does anyone use CC?
If so, what do you think about their service?
Next year, we are planning to send 5-6 email blasts that consists of 300k-500k people. So, we need a great provider that can handle the load.
I think there are two big differences between the two:
1) FER is a higher ed company, and they understand the unique challenges of the industry
2) If I recall correctly, MyEmma inserts their branding in your footer. I always think its a good idea to eliminate outside branding, if possible.
I have been using Constant Contact for about 2 years now and really like it. It gave me enough control that I could go in and tweak using HTML and CSS if I wanted to, but also gave my student workers and other non-techie people the ability to build messages that are professional. I use it for my College's monthly alumni newsletter and weekly student newsletter/announcements. I also use it for my IABC professional association.
As for the branding that Karlyn mentions, it is pretty much limited to their logo at the very bottom of the email right next to the fine print about unsubscribing. It really wasn't an issue for us.
We also liked their pricing structure where you only pay based on the number of unique email addresses you have stored. You could send something everyday if you wanted to (not recommended) without paying extra.
I avoid US based servers for personal information, and try to keep all PII on-campus or at least on Canadian servers. The requesting IP number in GA data could be personally identifying in some cases, but I'm not very concerned.
