Over the next few months we're going to be re-vamping departmental web sites at our college. As part of this, we're going to put together a web content guide aimed at providing guidance on how folks should present their department on the web.
We're looking at more than just a style guide; we also want to bake-in best practices in web content writing. For example:
- like not having a 1,200 word mission statement or greeting from the director on the home page
- writing tighter, shorter pages about the department's different programs, facilities, etc.
- effective use of bulleted lists and pull quotes
- recommendations for images, colors, etc. as well.
My question for you is ... do you have any examples of such web content guides, either in or out of higher education?
