Facebook places

Has anyone tried to claim ownership of their institution's place on Facebook? I saw one for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University last night and tried to claim ownership of it. The requirements for proof are listed below. As a state university, I doubt any of these forms exist for us. I'm wondering if other folks have tried to claim the place, or have a successful tip to share.

List follows:

Official documentation for your business (please provide a copy of one of the following):

- Articles of Certificate of Incorporation (for a corporation)

- Certificate of Formation (for a partnership)

- Local Business License (issued by your city, county, or state)

- Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accreditation

I got ours, but we're a private school and I was able to get our Certificate of Incorporation.

I used our college charter - worked fine, took about 3 or 4 days for Facebook to process it.

Has anyone claimed their Place on Facebook and then merged it with their Page? There's some information about it here http://ads.ak.facebook.com/ads/FacebookAds/Places_advertisers.pdf but would love to hear from others who have done this!

I was able to obtain a copy of our local business license, which worked fine. Any entity that conducts cash transactions is most likely to need one. I went straight to our controller in the business office.

I got ours by using our charter. Now to the bigger question: How are you using it? I added our logo, our basic info, etc., but I'm trying to think of some interesting ways of using it differently from our Facebook page. Anyone doing anything neat with it? Offering something for check-ins?

For lack of a better piece of documentation to send Facebook, I sent them our tax-exemption paperwork. Not sure if it worked yet, though. I'm waiting to hear back.

FYI - Our tax exemption documentation did not work. My claim was denied. Back to the drawing board!

See if your state's department of education has anything on their website about your institution. I know in NY, everything is filed with the state, even for private colleges, and there may be some proof on that site that you could save off as a PDF and send.

Thanks! I'll look into that! The only other thing I could think of is that maybe we have some sort of accreditation documentation. I feel like this is harder than it should be.

I've tried to get some of the documentation, but have been told that the enabling resolution that established Virginia Tech is written into the Code of Virginia. I submitted an excerpt but doubt that will work.
