Has anyone else tried http://issuu.com/?

We've just started using issuu. Seems to be a really good service. Gets the big thumbs up from our users. And it's very easy to upload content for our PR people.

We've used Issuu for a few things, notably the university magazine, and I really like it. We're considering using it for other publications. The only thing I wonder about is if the novelty of the interface will wear off quickly and become less efficient than Acrobat. We have had some issues uploading PDFs to Issuu - things improperly formatted and images missing. It required us to do some workarounds in InDesign specifically for Issuu.

My College has reviewed Issuu and our concern is the text is not crisp and clear unless you zoom in. And the color of the text within the publication makes a big difference. The lighter the text the harder to read, the darker the text the easier to read.

I am presently reviewing Uniflip at http://www.uniflip.com/ and the text and images seem to be clearer and crisper with this product. I have not done the cost comparsion between the two products/subscriptions, yet.

Do Issuu or Uniflip or any other similar tools produce publications that are accessible to disabled users (limited visibility and/or limited motor control)?

How is searching handled for these services? We have looked at a few similar products and are still trying to find one where the content is search-friendly. It's one thing to search from the site, but we want the content within to be found within a Google search.

We've used FlippingBook: http://page-flip.com/
One-time cost, fairly easy to edit. Works very similar to an issuu site.

We are currently using Issuu and it's great. However, we are using it only as a "fluffy" option for two reasons:

1. People are familiar with standard PDF's and let's face it everyone is comfortable with something they are familiar with.

2. We tested an Issuu publication with a couple of different blind browsers and the results were not favorable. Blind browsers, for blind users of our website, handle PDF's generally without problems.

What we do is offer a link to the fluffy Issuu publication along with the a link to a standard PDF.

Here's some examples:

The image of the schedule catalog is a link to the Issuu publication, the link at the bottom of the image is a link to the PDF.
