Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent or higher) in computer-related field. Three years of full-time programming experience. Fluent in HTML5/CSS3 and able to develop valid client-side markup. Experience with at least one server-side scripting language. Frameworks: Bootstrap (CSS / JavaScript) or equivalent Responsive design experience. Experience with PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript (including frameworks such as jQuery). Solid knowledge of CSS support for both modern and legacy browsers. Advanced CMS experience, including command of CMS capabilities such as custom post types, multiple content blocks, and taxonomies; highly-customized theme production and implementation; and knowledge of latest WP plugins, trends, security issues, and best practices. Thorough understanding of cross platform/browser issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with emerging technologies. Knowledge or use of several API's, such as Google /Google analytics. Familiarity with XML, XSL and database design principles. Prior experience with OmniUpdate CMS. Experience creating and customizing htaccess files and working with site redirects. Experience providing customer training in a classroom/lab setting. Experience with translating Photoshop mockups into HTML templates. Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Front-End Web Developer will work closely with the Web Production Supervisor and the rest of the web content team to facilitate the implementation and support of Stony Brook University's online presence. Incumbent in this position will implement Stony Brook’s website branding, build and evaluate websites using OmniUpdate Campus Content Management System and Wordpress and support the development of online applications and dynamic web pages.
- Code, implement and customize online applications, javascript and interactive forms including but not limited to dynamic pages, mobile-friendly web pages, and databases. Build and evaluate engaging, intuitive and user friendly websites using OUCampus (OmniUpdate).
- Build templates and implement features of third-party applications including OmniUpdate CMS (content management system), WordPress and Dude Solutions Calendar. Implement Stony Brook University web design within brand and style parameters set by the communications team of the Communications & Marketing office.
- Translate visual design, wireframes and prototypes and interaction concepts into functional HTML pages while ensuring accessibility, high performance, search engine optimization (SEO) and cross-browser compatibility.
- Work with IT department on technical issues, e.g. web server, database, and security.
- Provide support for Stony Brook’s CMS by offering training sessions and in-person consultation, creating and maintaining online FAQs, documentation and tutorials.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
