The trouble with advising my university that "our drop off rates seem really high" is that I don't have any comparative data to support my claim. Hence my use of the word "seems".

So I'd like to know what drop off rates some of you are seeing from your homepage (and more, if you're feeling generous). The way you find this info in the newest Google Analytics is to

  1. Log into your Analytics profile
  2. Under Audience in the left menu, click Visitor Flow
  3. Hover over your homepage under the Starting Pages column.

For my institution, the Terry College of Business at UGA, the drop off rate for homepage was 58.4% during April 2012.

Anyone else?

Ours is 75.2%. I imagine most of those bounces are folks going to our intranet/portal which isn't being tracked.

Ours is 74.6% but like Erik, there are a lot of links on our home page that aren't being tracked. On our graduation site where tracking is more consistent, the drop off is 12.3%.

We have 2 websites and the numbers are so far apart that it makes me think:)

youbc 9.46%

CFL 52%

Ours is 59.7%, just like Erik, i believe people going to intranet.

Is your intranet a core component of the web experience for your users? Our intranets (students, faculty/staff) are barely used. But I guess that may be different for us because we are a business school, versus the full university which does make extensive use of intranets.

April for us showed a 77.3%, but like other folks, we are shunting both students and staff/faculty to a portal from there. Seems like you're doing better than you thought!
