Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a seminar on HTML5 and CSS3. The best news is that many features now requiring JavaScript like "auto focus at a field level" will now be automatically baked into HTML5. As usual the biggest challenge is browser compliance. Does any one have an quick tips or any other challenges they have seen during development with the latest and greatest HTML/CSS?

Once the notes are posted, I will share the link to the presentation.

Browser compliance is definitely an issue, but I think we're going to see a swift movement across most browsers to fully support HTML 5 within the next 1-2 years. Google Chrome, IE (w/Google Chrome FW), and Apple Safari support HTML 5 in varying degrees. One of the biggest features is Canvas. With Adobe Flash CS5 having export-to-Canvas functionality, I'm certain that the majority of Flash apps will be moving to HTML 5/Canvas as soon as the major browsers are compliant with HTML 5 standards (which are still in development).

Would you be willing to share your findings/notes with the HTML 5 group?

Cheers,

I am still holding off any definitive move to HTML5. Until the spec goes gold, and until they finalize stuff like the specific video standards, I just think it's still too early to begin accounting for it. None of the browsers have full support yet, and really, there's no big benefit to be gained by jumping into it too early.
I agree Michael. HTML 5 isn't anywhere near to being ready for use in a full-scale production environment. However, it is ready for research, testing and development. I think there is a huge benefit in jumping in early - especially if a developer is interested in being a part of its advancement and adoption. That said, time is money and I know where you're coming from. R&D is a luxury in academia. =)
Here is the presentation by Parag Jagdale on HTML5 and CSS3. You will need a HTML5 compliant browser to view it.http://www.un-identified.com/html5/index.html
Great presentation! Thanks for sharing. I've reposted this to the HTML 5 group as this presentation is a nice resource.
YES, that everyone (IE I MEAN!) is not on board! Alot of the features are not supported by ie yet, go figure... It is very exciting and troubling at the same time... Because dang! Now we have a new language to learn! I dont suppose it will be finalized for many years though... Its all about the testing now. I got to attend a conference with Molly Holzschlag (a web pioneer, and evngelist)- I hope she was the presenter you saw too. She works for opera software, and her presentation was FABULOUS ! Office Reservation software

I've been tasked with finding a software tool that helps manage the onboarding and exit process of new and departing faculty. Ultimately i would like this software to management faculty office interms of when resources can be removed from a particular office and when a new faculty member can be moved in with the necessary resources. This tool should have notifications and alerts so there are no conflicts with someone being removed from a office and someone being placed in a office. Does anyone…See More
