University Web Developers

My goal when we started this site 18 months ago was to create a community for higher education web professionals where we could build relationships and share experiences and expertise. As we look to the future and how we can improve this site, please share any ideas and suggestions on how best to take this site forward.

Can anyone recommend a good wiki CMS? Something that doesn't require a lot of PHP knowledge?
i guess we have to setup a webserver that we can call "OURS"..though CMS and NING is good and the purpose of this community is to interact with other web developers in order to share their ideas and suggestion for the betterment of their website...c"; )... i only have one question..are the other web dev from the industry can join with us? or this is inclusive only for the university/college (higher education) web developers? because we can also get an idea from them... we can also build an ASSOCIATION all over the world for the web developers (chapter region)..what do you think? since the members are getting bigger..we can also include e-news and events...

Are you familiar with the Higher Education Web Professionals Association? We're in the process of defining membership and chapters, and we've had annual conferences for years. Feel free to send me a ning message with any ideas.

Hi Steve...sorry but i am not familiar with that association...i will search about it..thanks
ning is fine for me. Finding the time to login is the hard part. What would life be like without google reader!
This might seem crazy, but what if we dropped the "c" from this group's URL? I have yet to learn why we're cuwebd.ning.com and not uwebd.ning.com. Then again, changing a URL may be more trouble than it's worth.

Ning requires at least 6 letters in the name which is why we added the "c".
Another vote for a wiki/knowledge base. :)

Ning works, but what is its future?

I am considering moving this site to BuddyPress.  The major hurdle would be moving all the content (not just the member data)

Well, you have a small army of web developers here, I'm sure some would be willing to lend a hand.

Thoughts on "part-time work from home" for a web developer?

This isn't a posting for a job (but hopefully that will be coming soon!)We are looking to hire a new web developer, and have gotten the OK from HR to offer this with the possibility of working from home a few days of the week, and in the office the other days. We're hoping to draw in some more candidates from outside of our local area. This is only the second position at our institution that is not fully on site, so we're in uncharted territory!I'm curious to know, does anyone work part-time…See More
