Nature of Work

Part-time, .50FTE, web developer to provide website management, including maintenance, programming, and development of the departmental website, and provide technical support as needed. In this environment, the Web Developer will work directly with the director of marketing and senior staff using XHTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. Web developer will support the academic mission of the School of Public Affairs by increasing the dissemination of faculty research, supporting research-related websites/applications and providing academic & programmatic content for prospective and current students.

Examples of Work Performed
Responsibilities include researching, developing, implementing and maintaining department website and applications. Researching & implementing best practices in web marketing, search optimization, & online advertising. Working with faculty and staff within SPA and the University to update and develop new web pages and functionality. Most web pages and applications will be developed & maintained using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) web content management system.

Salary Range: $24,500 - $35,500 at 50% time. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package. Information on University benefits programs, including eligibility, is located at www.cusys.edu/pbs.
Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications) Minimum Requirements
*Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor's degree.
*One year experience designing and building web applications.
*Strong skills in HTML & CSS.
*Strong experience in data base development.
*Experience with Javascript and Flash.
Desired qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
*Marketing experience and background.
*Understanding of product development lifecycle.
*Experience developing applications for research dissemination.
*Ability to work with both faculty and staff to create & edit academic content for website.
*Ability to create web applications that will allow the School to better disseminate internship, job and fellowship opportunities to both distance and local students, supporting SPA's goal of increasing its connectivity to the community.
*Ability to create web applications that will allow SPA to broadcast lectures & workshops, supporting the School's goal of increasing learning opportunities outside the classroom for online and distance students.
*Familiar with creating prototypes at different levels of fidelity (paper, wireframe, functional prototypes).
*Excellent understanding of user-centered design, user interface design and a strong instinct for usability.
*Thorough knowledge of industry usability standards.
*Thorough understanding of W3C web design guidelines and Section 508/WAI accessibility issues.
*Understanding of using JavaScript to manipulate the Document Object Model.
*Very strong understanding of CSS1 and CSS2 including the ability to separate content from presentation and behavior (layout without using tables).
*Proficiency in using front-end development tools such as Visual Studio 2005, Dreamweaver, SharePoint Designer, Expression, etc.
*Proficiency in a graphics editing tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, or Fireworks.
*Solid understanding of browser compatibility issues, site architecture best practices, and various standards applicable to Web authoring.
*Ability to learn new languages as technology evolves or strategy dictates.
*Able to function in a Windows server environment and a basic understanding of web servers, database servers and application server technology.
*Ability to write lean and clean code with useful comments and documentation.
*Ability to create and maintain web based database to support dynamic pages (MS SQL & ASPX and/or MySQL & PHP).
*Ability to develop websites on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.
*Experience with understanding and translating web analytics and assisting the marketing team in incorporating and utilizing this data to assist marketing decision making.
*Strong English written/verbal communication.
*Strong interpersonal skills and tactfulness are a must.
*Able to work in a close team effort where ongoing collaboration among team members and various interconnecting projects is a must.
*Must be comfortable making design decisions independently as well as within a team framework.
*Must be a confident self-starter who possesses tenacity, curiosity, and a penchant for detail.
