Hello,
Usually I post our redesigns to Edustyle.net but since they started wanting money to move your redesign to the top of the list thought I would post our redesign here.

Looking for any helpful suggestions to make it better.

New Site: http://www.smsu.edu/ (Redesigned with a team of me and some students. Also utilizing a coldfusion cms built in house)

Old Site: http://199.17.208.59/ (I think this is still accessible off campus?)

Looking for any feedback you have. School size 3000 on campus 2000 off

Hi Ryan,

Nice job on the design and content. I love the focus on prospective students and placing their links of interest right on the home page. I also like the rotating feature stories in the center, the way you handled the Quick Links and the social media in the footer.

Hey thanks everyone for the feedback. Its difficult sometimes at these smaller universities to find much quality feedback so I do appreciate the time you take to comment.
Hi Ryan,

Kudos! You and Jacob have hit the ball out-of-the-park. The SMSU people directory and interactive campus map provide an ideal mix of detail and simplicity. And, the generous white-space and large labels make the site very easy to use and navigate.

Cheers,
Luke
I think the design looks great. I do have one word of caution, though. I'm not sure what your analytics information looks like, but the home page could potentially be extremely confusing for someone with either an 800x600 display or someone with a lot of toolbars installed on their browser (or, for that matter, it could be just as confusing for someone who doesn't pay attention very well). The reason I say this is that, for users with lesser screen resolutions, all of the changes that occur on the home page after clicking one of the links under "Where You Belong" are potentially occurring off the screen, so they would have no idea that something actually happened when they clicked that link.

I would recommend adding some sort of visual feedback to your users when they click one of those links, to let them know that the content of the home page has been updated.

When I first clicked on the links there, I was kind of expecting the information within the promotional area to the left of that menu to change. It wasn't until the second or third time I clicked one of those links that I realized the menu area below was what was changing.

I hope that makes sense.

Archived magazine stories

Greetings,What are you all doing online with "old" magazine stories? Do you delete issues after so  many years? 5 years? 10? I'm torn between keeping all on for historical purposes or keeping just a few years online to simplify the site (ala Gerry McGovern.) Curious as to what you see best practices being.ThanksSara KisseberthBluffton Universitywww.bluffton.eduSee More
