Hey everyone!
I'm a *former* higher ed employee who has been active at HighEdWeb (though it's been a few years) and this Ning site for several years...and I was wondering if I could envoke the power of the Red Swingline Stapler I got for a Best of Track presentation at HighEdWeb a few years ago, to see if anyone else might have experienced similar issues to the iPhone/iPad/iPod problems I'm experiencing on our new site design that I am attempting to launch. Spiderman (on Family Guy) says everybody gets one favor, right?! :-)
An example of a "test" page that is running off the new "responsive design" template code can be found here: http://www.mapformation.com/portfolio/campus/ahec3Dnew.htm
On PCs and inside Chrome, Firefox, and most browsers, I've tested numerous sample pages, and just about everything is working properly. However, on the iPhone, iPod, and iPad (at least), I'm having two problems:
- z-index issues (I think). Menus will be placed behind other page elements (such as a Google Mashup window). ONLY on those Apple products I mentioned, not on any other products I have tested so far. Screen capture below.
- pinch/tap issue. Our site includes several Google Maps mashups (example: http://www.mapformation.com/aboutus/clients/mashupnew.htm). On an iPad, if one visits the above page and tries to click/tap/??? on a location in the State of Georgia, as one example, Google will re-center the map anywhere except a more-detailed view within Georgia (like it is supposed to). Again, works fine/great on Windows, and in Chrome, Firefox, etc. on a Mac desktop/laptop. But on the Mac iOS on portable devices? Google seems to be taking users through a "worm hole."
Any idea what might be causing these issues? I'm really here for help with #2, as #1 is probably more of a simple CSS issue that I haven't gotten to the bottom of. Although I haven't gotten #1 working yet either, so if someone could humor me if they have an idea for fixing either, I would be very appreciative. FWIW, the css which governs the above test pages can be found at: http://www.mapformation.com/templates/css/style.css Thanks in advance for any help/ideas!

Permalink Reply by Justin Gatewood on February 12, 2013 at 1:19pm -- perhaps this article will help you re: windowless mode using Silverlight and HTML overlays - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8809781/html-overlay-in-a-silver...
Example: on Line 208 of the zoom.it/*.js file, we see: "Seadragon.Config.windowlessMode=false"
on Line 214 of the zoom.it/*.js file, we see again: "windowless":(Seadragon.Config.windowlessMode | | false).toString());
Hope this helps. Looks like 'windowless' needs to be set to 'true' for your overlay to stop having issues.
Maybe try adding ?windowless=true&background=transparent to your URL in iOS to see if that helps (or some combo of those 1 or the other or both)
Permalink Reply by Derek Tonn on February 12, 2013 at 2:26pm Thanks Justin! I tried adding ?windowless=true&background=transparent to the end of the URL on an iPad, but still no luck (same problem). I also posted an SOS (another SOS) on the zoom.it support forums too...to see if anyone else has ideas. It would sure be nice to get to the bottom of these issues, as they are the only thing preventing the re-launch of our site. Four months of hard coding and image work...held up by two lousy glitches on iPhone/iPod/iPad! I know folks here can relate too.
