So, we finally got budget approval for search engine marketing — particularly through Google AdWords's remarketing. Can anyone recommend an agency/firm to work with? I've done a lot of this on my own in the past, and I'd like to outsource it this time.

I would talk to Converge Consulting, they are really great. They are experts in this plus they are higher ed focused.

Fantastic, thanks, Matt!

I'm also looking into Cardinal Path, since they're the ones that Google anointed to run all of their AdWords training sessions... http://www.cardinalpath.com/

Higher Ed Marketing is also another possibility. They did work a few years with Stephane Hamel is one of the top team members at Cardinal Path.

Higher Ed Marketing shared some interesting data with me last year when I was working on an article about digital advertising for University Business.

The instructor for our higher ed SEO SEM online course at Higher Ed Experts, Joshua Dodson, used to work for Converge Consulting. So, you should defintely check out both.

Thanks, Karine! I'll definitely check them both out.

Looks like my previous edits didn't take. Sorry for the typos :(.
I meant "They did work a few years ago with Stephane Hamel who is one of the top team members at Cardinal Path."

Moz publishes a list of search engine ranking factors (the SEO Bible in my opinion) at http://moz.com/article/search-ranking-factors/2011

If you look at the list of contributors of that survey at http://moz.com/article/search-ranking-factors/2011#contributors you will find many SEO experts that are considered by Moz reputable in their field.

Choose someone with experience in the higher education industry.
