At the Stamats Integrated Marketing Technology conference (#stamats09) yesterday, several of us were discussing various components of our job descriptions for student social media interns in our offices. I'd like to create something new for next semester myself, and many at the conference said they'd love to see what others have done.

If you have a description that you think has served your office well, would you mind sharing it here for others?

Thanks in advance! :)

I also would like to hear what people think. I've found in the past 2 years that the best people I have hired are ones I have recruited. I'm becoming a social media headhunter. :) Find people who do it well, then go get them. Of course that isn't always possible and one day my luck will run out, so I'd love to hear from people with experience.

I dont know if its served me well - its only been a few months - but I have only a short descriptive 'graph that I used.

I also modified this for a video position.

Here was mine (with a hearty assist from Jessica Krywosa of Suffolk University):

This position will allow a student the opportunity to help shape and promote online and social media community experiences for the college. The social media intern serves as an online ambassador particularly to prospective student audiences. Will involve representing institution on such platforms as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other emerging social-media spaces.

... and yes, it's already drawing a lot of interest!

We're working on this with a school right now. I'll share what we end up at!

It's not for our school, but it is a pretty decent description of a social media intern position:

Ah, well that makes a pretty big difference. Then I'd say probably about a 15% increase in salary or $7500, whichever is more, unless they're making a pretty big jump up the ladder for it.

There's no real "professional organization" per se yet. The HighEdWeb group had been working on something like that though, but I'm not sure where they are at in that process. As for conferences, I'd generally recommend HighEdWeb and EDUWeb.
