University Web Developers

Has someone on your campus developed a formal social media policy or guidelines as many corporations have for their employees?

I know WSU Vancouver has developed guidelines for Facebook and Twitter, but I'm wondering if other campuses have developed a non-tool-specific comprehensive social media policy you'd be willing to share and point us to?

I love your social media brief. Would you mind if I adapted it for our purposes?
We are just beginning to experiment with social media on campus and not even to the full potential that we plan to in the near future, but we developed a beginning document that is more referred to as a guidelines document and I agree with Brad that it should be a living document and change frequently. We've tried to tie it back to existing policies about conduct, copyright, etc. so that we don't recreate the wheel.
At Marylhurst, we "borrowed" from some nicely written corporate policies (IBM was one) and, as others have mentioned, referred to other university policy within our social media policy. It's more of a guideline rather than a policy. As individuals and departments are experimenting with social media, we needed to have something in place, although I'm sure we'll be updating it as needed.

We're in the process of doing ours. Just this morning though, I found a Twitter Strategy done for government departments. That page links off to the quite lengthy document.
We're also putting together a "best practices" guide for the University of Florida as part of a communications/marketing sub-sub committee. (Actually, there might be more "subs" there.)

Our Acceptable Use Policy is pretty straight forward, so instead, we're focusing on what it means to use (and commit to) social media, what a follower might expect and how to take full advantage and leverage time well. We're also giving strong suggestions to include branding elements for avatars and backgrounds and such.

Once this document is in a final form, we'll let everyone know, if you're interested.

I'm wondering if anybody has any work or resources on policies for STUDENT posting to your institution's (main or affliated or social media) websites -- whether their original material or their comments/responses to

I'd like to open up the conversation, and my administration is nervous about what might show up! They'd love to see my Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, Disclaimers ... !!

I would like to thank all of your for your responses. My division is trying to spearhead this very thing in hopes that the university will adopt it. Unfortunately, I am the only one working on it for the time being...
