I'm researching the pros and cons of converting to HTML5 at this point. I know the answer should be obvious, but are the added benefits worth a transition?
- I'd like to know if anyone is in the process, what are the specific show-stoppers?
- How long would you wait?
My reasons go beyond just "WOOT HTML5!" Our underlying HTML was pretty terrible to begin with and was built on Yahoo Grids (I'm not a fan of blueprint CSSs). So I took the opportunity to substantially simplify our HTML, refactor all the CSS, and added in ARIA roles and better accessibility support. Great side effect, the pages will now be able to transform for mobile devices very nicely with a mere stylesheet swap. The entire process has enabled to me cut down our base page size by about half (though that's more to the credit of refactoring everything, and nothing really to do with HTML5).
