Hey all,

We are using Adobe's CQ5 for our CMS. It does a lot of wonderful things; however, forms are one of the things that could use a little/lot of improvement. Recognizing that, we are looking at integrating a 3rd party solution for forms. What are you all using for online forms integrated into your sites? For security reasons, we are looking to avoid using a cloud based solution. Just curious.

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

I think creating a form solution that is not cloud-based, and is not tied to a specific CMS or CRM system will be difficult without diving into a fair bit of coding.

As an example, I use Formidable Pro which is a WordPress plugin, and an excellent form manager, There are similar systems for Drupal, Joomla, and proprietary CMS systems like CQ5 of course have their own form capabilities built in.

Your alternatives are cloud-based (http://www.wufoo.com/) or roll-your own solutions typically involving extensive coding. If you attach these coded forms to a database backend you are essentially rolling your own CRM or CMS in parallel to Adobe CQ5... this would involve a lot of programming work just to improve your existing form capabilities, and would undermine whatever CQ5 does in terms of marketing and CRM integration, which seems to be what it is aimed at.

If you decide to go ahead, a quick glance at Adobe CQ5 shows it runs on a Java/Oracle stack... so I'm sure programmers are available who can build what you want, but I expect it is not cost-effective to go that far out of the Adobe box.

When are you up for a re-assessment of your web platform? I'd be a bit nervous depending on a proprietary system that might be relatively late in its life-cycle. Discontinuation or major change initiated by the vendor is always a possibility, so you may want to explore an alternative CMS for your next major site upgrade.

What are your thoughts on this going forward? Are you happy sticking with Adobe CQ5 aside from the forms capability?

Columbia College site redesigned - take a look!

We launched a redesign of our site on July 1. It was more than just a new skin, it was a reorganization of the content. In the past we've tried to serve all audiences - current students, prospects, staff, faculty and alumni. It ended up being link overload. It also used internal back office terminology that was confusing to prospects. Our charge was to gear the site toward prospective students and to move all content for current students and faculty & staff behind our existing portal. We…See More
