University Web Developers

Hi all...

I am in need of direction for hosting a community college website off campus.  I have received a couple of Infrastructure As A Service quotes and the numbers seem a bit high.  We will use the dotnetnuke framework for the new site.  I was hoping to have someone maintain the OS with regard to patches and take backups.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just as a quick response, to start the conversation: I think you will likely find managed hosting for windows-based servers somewhat more expensive than for equivalent LAMP servers. Managed hosting for LAMP typically starts around $100 a month and up, so you might expect to find a managed VM solution for Windows servers somewhere above that price point. I see one vendor has a managed Windows server solution for $250 a month (http://www.orcsweb.com/hosting/pricing/) and another at $275 (http://www.hostway.com/managed-servers/pricing.html), which is about what I might expect.

Is that in line with the numbers you have been getting from your cloud vendors?
