A former intern and I will be doing a conference session on 'Getting Started in Chinese Social Media' at #PSEWEB in Vancouver on June 25th. We'll be presenting from London Ontario, using a mix of slides, video, and screen-shared web browsing. We plan to use a single connection with a mic and webcam here in London, and another laptop with a projector and audio in the conference room in Vancouver.

Technologies we've considered using are Google Hangouts, Skype, and OBS (http://obsproject.com/), but we also have access to Blackboard Collaborate, and are open to other options…

Do you have a favorite technology for remote presentations? Are there specific presentation tools you'd recommend we use?

Comments and advice appreciated!

I thought I'd follow up on my own post here, and share the solution we came up with:

After playing a bit with Google Hangouts and Skype screen-sharing, we decided on an alternative approach: A presentation 'sandwich'... We'll start the session with a brief Skype introduction, then cut to a video that we have pre-recorded with OBS and posted to Vimeo. We'll finish with a Q&A in Skype.

We figure this will give the benefits of live interaction at the start and finish of the session, without the potential quality and bandwidth issues that would come with live-streaming the whole presentation.

We'll know on the 25th whether this works as expected... Cheers!

We use Adobe Connect for all of our mixed media webinars and presentations, whether they are run purely online or with a live audience as well. We love it, it's an amazing product and so worth our investment (we went with the enterprise license but there are cheaper options).

Thanks – I've also heard mention of Adobe Connect as a tool the #PSEWEB conference organizer has used successfully in the past -- I'll check it out as an option.

Just to close off the thread: We went with a Skype sandwich around a Vimeo screencast presentation we had recorded with OBS, and felt that the technology combination worked well for us. We also tried out a 'Blue Snowball' mic in the Skype sessions and had good success with that nifty retro looking gizmo: http://bluemic.com/snowball/

Updating our Privacy Policy

Hello,We are looking to update our privacy policy on our website to better reflect the activities of our marketing folks and their partners. This would include things like retargeting and the potential personalization of our CRM. I was wondering if other universities have updated their privacy policies recently and could share how they crafted it? I'd like to have some sort of template before meeting with our lawyer to get their sign off. Thanks!See More
