Looking to see if any highered institutions have signed up for the 'YouTube Partnership Program'? A few of our videos have hit a high number of views so I keep seeing the "earn money from your video" information when I log in. I have also received some emails about this.

I am investigating this to see if it could be a possible revenue generator but not sure if this is a good idea. Do you think that this is a bad idea?

Has anyone had any experience with this that they would be willing to share?

Thanks very much,
Annalisa

We have not because of the fact that competitor ads will show up on our videos. If someone else has done something differently I would love to learn from it.
It's not an option for those of us at public universities, but we are part of YouTube.EDU which I highly recommend if you choose not to go with the partnership program. We've been able to customize our page and become part of the EDU network.

The EDU landing page: http://www.youtube.com/edu

Our page: http://www.youtube.com/univofconnecticut

To apply: http://docs.google.com/View?id=dc4j7df7_226g3sfp7cg
We also have a presence on YouTube, which is has been very successful for us. We have approximately 100 videos that encompass what our college is all about.

Looking through your YouTube Channel, I see that there is at least one video that exceeds (by far) the 10-minute limit normally imposed on YouTube uploads:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arm3rqTN_wM

Were you able to do this because you were "grandfathered in" prior to YouTube implementing the 10-minute limit, or because of your YouTube EDU status, or what?

Just curious, as there are starting to be more and more "murmurs" here at Ohio Wesleyan from various faculty/staff about wanting to be able to upload longer-than-10-minute videos and I'm trying to research what (if any) my options are.

Thanks,

Hi Doug,

Yes Queen's does have EDU status. After Alexa's posting I checked the directory listing of EDU channels here http://www.youtube.com/channels?s=ytedu_directory and noticed that Queen's was not listed.

I contacted YouTube using the email I got letting me know that our channel was accepted into YouTube's education partner program asking why we were not on the list and he got back to me within a day (I was very impressed). He gave me the following reasons:

"Channels are listed in the EDU Directory periodically provided they are fully branded (banner at top of channel), and more importantly, that they are primarily educational content as opposed to marketing/prospectus material. This is the purpose of the site, and what the YouTube community values most. As a rule of thumb, viewers should learn from rather about your school. "

I can appreciate this. One thing I did notice however that when I randomly clicked on a few of those schools listed in the directory some of them did not have predominantly educational content. I suspect that to start they did - so they were put on the listing - but then over time they became more promotional in nature.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Annalisa
My University applied for EDU status on YouTube almost a year ago and never heard back. Has anyone else waited this long? I'm wondering if we should reapply. We don't have a ton of videos on our channel now, but would like to be able to upload lectures and speakers.
I think I only had to wait a few months. I would definitely try reapplying.
This was a challenge for us. I don't remember how, but I finally was able to reach a contact person at Google to flip our account. Keep applying.

Office Reservation software

I've been tasked with finding a software tool that helps manage the onboarding and exit process of new and departing faculty. Ultimately i would like this software to management faculty office interms of when resources can be removed from a particular office and when a new faculty member can be moved in with the necessary resources. This tool should have notifications and alerts so there are no conflicts with someone being removed from a office and someone being placed in a office. Does anyone…See More
