Although I am a webmaster I lean more to web designer- that being said I need as much help as I can get. I am looking into creating blogging communities, having press releases and sports stories served to the website by those who do not know HTML or Dreamweaver. We are a small college and do not need a super-solution. In the last couple of days I have been looking at ExpressionEngine that runs less than $500 fully loaded.

Let me know what you think.

Expression Engine can grow with you as your needs change so that's not a bad idea. Wordpress, MoveableType and any other kind of blog based CMS may be a good option too since your requirements amount to creating a simple mechanism for non-web people to post stories.

My experience with Expression Engine is more limited than the others I mentioned, but WP and MT strike me as easier to set up if you're more comfortable with design rather than code. But that's only one man's opinion and one not entirely defensible given my superficial EE experience. I'm sure others on this list will have more well informed guidance.

Thanks for replying. I was trying to stay in-house as much as possible. It scares me a bit maybe because I know little about WP (MT?) works. I have a blog but I use "Blogger". I am under the impression that I can push Expression Engine to help us relay Press Releases to the website (from PR) and athletic stories and scores from Athletics. What's your opinion about that?

Oh oh... it would be very helpful to know what % of mobile phones are Web accessible.. with a data plan. Based on that information, marketing to/with the device would change considerably.
