We switched to Drupal for our main website June '12. For the most part, we are happy with it. I'm the primary FTE for the site but I've been able to recruit about 10 content contributors from other depts since this our first CMS.

Open Academy is a D7 distro which was presented at DrupalCon Denver 2012.

Chapter 3 http://www.chapterthree.com/ used to have the distribution available.

Drupal http://drupal.org/project/openacademy says it is looking for a new maintainer.

Open Scholar http://openscholar.harvard.edu/ is done on Drupal 6.

Does anyone know of a stable distro that uses Biblio and SOLR?

I have implemented Drupal 6 and bringing an additional three new sites in on Drupal 7 for my division inside of Rio Salado College, part of the Maricopa County Community College District in Phoenix, AZ.

I have two part time developers working on Drupal.  We are enhancing it and creating our own tiny_mce add in for image, photo credit and photo caption handling into a story node.

We just went to Drupal for our main web site this summer. I am nearly full time on the site, but also do digital displays, intranet (PHP/MySQL right now), and some other tasks. We hired a vendor to do research and design and build the site. We are very happy with our site. The judges are still out on Acquia Devcloud hosting.

I'm in marketing and communications. I write and edit content on the site. My co-worker does some development, analytics and strategic planning. Because we have more work than we can handle, we maintain a contract with our University Technology Office. When we have larger projects (like a redesign) or other projects where we lack the knowledge to complete, they step in. Our contract is renewed annually.

We do not use students on our site only because they seem particularly difficult to retain for more than a semester.

We are currently transitioning to drupal in our college (part of a larger university system). We're moving from a homegrown CMS. We've already got our college calendar, and digital signage in drupal. Right now there's 1.5 people committed to Drupal development, but that's only one part of their job. Our roll out has been slow.

We went to Drupal for our homepage a year ago. Getting to the first release we had 1 FTE with data entry and some template work by our students ( probably another .25 FTE altogether). Design for the site was separate - we had a bunch of campus folks from various groups that contributed time to do the graphic design and user studies. Now, a year after release we're building up our multisite installs for the colleges to go onto Drupal. I've hired a full-time Drupal developer but am able to spend less time on Drupal myself. So we're probably still at 1 FTE and support from our students if required. Plus each of the colleges is supplying the content editors.

FWIW - we love Drupal for the university. I think a strong open source product is the way to go when budgets are so slim.

In addition, I'm interested in learning, for those schools that are using Drupal, how many FTE's are committed to Drupal development, whether staff, contract, or students.
