I am a new member in uwebd, but very glad I found it! I have been developing a Community of Practice in Ning for Penn State World Campus Faculty Development. By far the most challenging aspect has been getting a user-friendly navigation system in place since Ning doesn't easily allow for the traditional left hand navigation pane people are accustomed to.
We also decided not to embed our navigation in the tabs because of the complexity and depth of the site and the challenge of trying to help people understand the site's structure without any prior knowledge of our purpose. I just recently built a table of contents of sorts into the right column since it is sticky and I think that has helped.
Has anyone figured out how to do breadcrumbs in Ning? I found one site that had them embedded into the banner (http://www.ningcustomdesign.com/index.php?option=com_content&vi...) but that's it. By the way, I am learning CSS and how to work around Ning's coding infrastructure as I go. I would classify myself as stubborn and determined, but a novice.
Greetings,What are you all doing online with "old" magazine stories? Do you delete issues after so many years? 5 years? 10? I'm torn between keeping all on for historical purposes or keeping just a few years online to simplify the site (ala Gerry McGovern.) Curious as to what you see best practices being.ThanksSara KisseberthBluffton Universitywww.bluffton.eduSee More
