Supported Browsers

One of my favorite web applications, BaseCamp, is phasing out support for IE6 starting today. But recently, Google has improved Gmail's code base for IE6. My question is which browsers do you support? Do you have an policy stating which browsers are officially supported? Personally, I can't wait for the IE6 (and 7) to give up the ghost and would love to find good rationale for not supporting them anymore, especially IE6.

Sure it is... They'll upgrade eventually. In a specific and very non-pc way, this is a real chicken and egg thing. Do we develop for every browser that's out there (and so every new one and revision that appears) or do we stick with core apps and people who choose to use outdated, outmoded, platforms on esoteric OSs can live with it. I actually prefer the latter, and so long as the site looks and behaves in FF and IE7 (shudder) then the rest can take it as it comes, more or less. Perhaps it's also a question of resourcing; as I'm only me by my lonesome, I'm not bothered about attempting to chase a moving target too much.

This thing about CSS is, that once you have found a way to deal with a particular browser fault, like MSIE6 and min-width or min-height, you have that solution in your toolbox. You only have to solve the problem once.

Yes, they can be different contexts of the same issue, but I just think they is no justification not to support a browser used by your audience. My cut off is <5%. Right now, our MSIE6 runs around 20%.
