So, I've been given 10 minutes this coming Tuesday to talk about Facebook to the President and his Cabinet.

If you were given this opportunity to discuss the benefits & how at least the areas of marketing, communications & recruitment should be integrating Facebook into their communication strategies, which points/features would want to be sure to cover? I have lots of great articles & stats I'm pulling into it already & am talking up our Page & mentioning other groups that have been created on their own, etc.

What would you cover?

our only objective was to keep open communication with admitted applicants who had not paid their acceptance fee and were considering other schools. we can now engage them to answer direct questions about why they should choose KCUMB over other schools. the response has been really good so far but i'm not sure if it will result in higher matriculation of admitted students this year or not. jury still out on that.
You probably already had this presentation huh? I'd definitely share the % of your student body that are already on Facebook.

I wrote a blog post about Higher Education marketing on Facebook a while back. Take a look at that, maybe there are some ideas in there you can share.

Good luck!
I actually did, last Tuesday morning, and it was very well received. I did share the # of students already in our SUNY New Paltz Network, and a bunch of other stats. They understand the importance of this medium and sounds like they'll be further supporting resources going towards this.

I referenced a new report by YouthTrends published on that shows both male and female college students listed Facebook as the #1 site they access daily. I did know about your blog post and made reference to some items in it as well. I showed them some of our Insights, created fancy Excel charts to visually show them the break down of male vs. female fans, ages of our fans, who they are (had my intern manually go through the fans list to keep track of what networks they're in to be able to generalize a percentage of high school students, alumni, current students & other). I discussed the current resources it takes to keep up with our wall posts and posting new material, shared with them possible future opportunities for targeted advertising, and showed them a top 10 list of current groups others have formed on Facebook that are related to the college. I also showed them an application one of our engineering students created, called "NP Alerts," which automatically pulls the any emergency notification message we post on the college's home page and presents it in a profile box for subscribers in Facebook.

Our newest promotional gimic to promote our Facebook page is going to be to give out customized plastic bags at Accepted Students Open House in a few weeks for them to put all the brochures & stuff they pick up from the booths they stop by. The bags will (properly!) use the "Find us on Facebook" (R) badge and we put text underneath that says "Search for the SUNY New Paltz Page."

Wow! I wish you would come talk to our people. :)

Do you have all of that in a presentation format (Powerpoint or something)? Personally, I'd be really interested in your results and maybe some of the others in this network if you don't mind sharing.
I do & I'd be happy to share. I'll post it here on Monday.
Here it is. Keep in mind, the snapshot data of our fans was taken on 2/28/08 & the presentation was given on 3/4/08. We now have 622 fans as of 9 a.m. today.

I also ran across this interesting perspective:
11 Internet Marketing Trends to Ignore for 2008 (Facebook is #1...)

This looks awesome! Thanks for sharing. I quickly scanned through it and printed it out to digest and process later. I thought your male/female ratio was interesting although not really off because IFacebook as a whole is 55-45 tilt toward female according to Quantcast.
Thanks for your generosity. It is extremely well prepared!
Hi Rachel:

I'm a bit late for your comment, but I'd suggest the President and his cabinet OK, a campus wide Facebook strategy. All departments as you know, admissions, students services, residence halls and alumni/advancement could benefit. I've got plenty of ideas, give me a buzz or email me 800 805 9413
