"Hi Sarah, My thoughts are that people connect with people. Its a little bit artificial having a conversation with an 'organisation'. If I went into an enquiry centre or called a company, I'd speak with a person. And I could talk with…"

"yikes- that sounds like a lot of constant maintenance to keep up with FB and a lot of room for leaks and errors. My first thought is that all admins would have to crank their privacy settings up to the max, but not sure you can really make people do…"

FB Page admin privacy

Hi,We have 11 admins for our Facebook page, and we all post as the page, which in our case is 'James Cook University'. I'd like to have it so we post as ourselves, but with our privacy set up so we can partition our activity on the page from the rest of our Facebook 'lives'. Any idea on how to do that?thanks,RossSee More

Student and faculty testimonials - useful?

Hi,We've used student and faculty profiles or testimonials on our website as a means of providing 'independent' endorsement of JCU. Typically, these profiles were initially written for our print publications, then transplanted onto the site. Last year we played around with the presentation of these my compiling them together in to a site www.jcu.edu.au/mystory. Don't click unless you feel like being overwhelmed by a rotating wall of…See More

Google Analytics Absolute Unique Visitors

Hi,Our 'Absolute Unique Visitors' in GA seems to be far too high. For example, it says that in the last week, we've been visited by 127633 'people'. To put this in context, we have around 16000 students, and a few thousand staff. From what I've read, AUV is essentially a count of the persistent cookie GA puts on the visitors computer. Is there anything that we are doing that would delete that each day or session to inflate this figure? I presume our lab computers would wipe the cookie so each…See More

No, our videos are hosted on an a Content Delivery Network (CDN). We also post via YouTube for the sake of archiving and other features which our own home-grown system doesn't provide. It's also another channel for delivery that users are comfortable with and we're happy to provide content where the users already go.
