Anyone attending HighEdWeb 2008: Infinite Solutions conference?
Has anyone attended a previous year? Care to share your experience? The topics seem relevant to my position (as well as a coworker's) and we're trying to figure out if this is one we should "fight for"...you know, convince our supervisor that it is, in fact, a useful conference, not just a paid trip.

Thanks in advance.

I've been for the past two years, and will be presenting on selecting a content management system this year.

The biggest plus of any conference is meeting people who you can learn from. I've met a lot of great people and learned a lot of great stuff from the HighEdWeb conference.

As far as sessions, I agree with Jonathan on the breakdown. I felt that last year's conference was better than two years ago, but both were well worth attending.

I'm really looking forward to this year, and yes, we should definitely do a meetup.
I hope others want to do a meetup. I know I have a lot to learn from others in similar positions. :-)

I won't be attending your selecting a CMS session (we've just purchased one), but do look forward to meeting you.

See you in MO!
I'm curious... to the people going to HighEdWeb this year, what is the main reason you are going? What's the main thing you are interested in?

A specific conference track? Meeting people in your field? Learning new technologies? Vacationing in glorious Springfield, MO?? After hours partying?? Meeting all the freaks you've been following on Twitter for the past six months??

Be honest, what's your motivation for going?

Me, well, I'm presenting. And I want to be more active in the higher ed web community, and meet and learn from people who do what I do. And then there's those Twitter freaks like @mherzber. And let's not kid ourselves; I'll take a few days out of the office partying, even if it is Springfield.
If I can make it I'm going to listen to THE Tony Dunn present. Pretty much my complete justification coming to the conference. :)

HONEST!
Well, I hope you like lolcat pictures, because you're going to get 45 minutes of that in my presentation!

I LOVE lolcat pics! I may come to your session after all. hahahahha
I think you've actually mentioned all the reasons to go! :-)

I want to meet the freaks I follow on these danged blogs, network with said freaks, working vacay in MO. The tracks also seem to be informative. The really good part? My Marketing/PR coworker gets to come, too since some of the tracks work for her, too. We're glad to be out of the office, network and learn a little. :-)
Ola Susan -

Since I started back doing some web-based development, I was able to convince 'my people' to send me here this year rather than the Datatel/Tech Training that would be the norm...

This will be the first time in attendance for this conference, however I did get to attend it's dotted-line predecessor - the WebDevShare conferences held at Indiana University 1999-2003. THOSE were excellent in both content and community and I have high hopes that HighEdWeb will be of similar quality. I recognize several names from the WebDevShare pantheon and it will be interesting to see if the fire still burns as hot as it did five years ago...

I know I'll do my part (as nominal 'laundry and morale' officer) to try to try to make this memorable and productive...

Hope to see youse there...
Rich,

I really am glad to hear that this conference will be great. It seems as though there will be sessions that will benefit both me and my coworker. More importantly, I look forward to meeting everyone IRL.

P.S. I look forward to real life fantasy football smack talking, too. :-)
I'm going. It'll be my first time so I don't much to offer for justification but from what I've heard and from looking at the conference schedule, it looks well worth it. Looking forward to meeting all of you! : )
Hey! I just got word that my proposal for presenting a poster session at HighEdWeb2008 has been accepted! I still have an outside shot at that awesomlistically gorgeous RED STAPLER...

I'm hoping the content will be enough, but I will stoop to bribery, off-color personal innuendo, theft, and sabotage to bring home that stapler-shaped bacon! Gangway, alla youse are about to be PRESENTED!

I'm demonstrating 'Integrating Google Apps with your->ERP()' - a dirty-fingernails presentation on leveraging (programmer codeword for 'stealing') the free services now offered to Institutions of Higher Ed (dontchewknow) by Google Inc. - branded Gmail, applications, calendaring and whatnot.

Like SpongeBob: be there or be square...
Wow, I wish I would have known about your presentation and HighEdWeb2008 before it happened! Do you have any slides and/or video of your presentation you could share? Especially useful would be something with pros and cons of Google Apps vs. MS Exchange (which my university sadly uses now). Thanks!

Archived magazine stories

Greetings,What are you all doing online with "old" magazine stories? Do you delete issues after so  many years? 5 years? 10? I'm torn between keeping all on for historical purposes or keeping just a few years online to simplify the site (ala Gerry McGovern.) Curious as to what you see best practices being.ThanksSara KisseberthBluffton Universitywww.bluffton.eduSee More
