One of the features I'd like to see on this site is a single RSS feed that aggregates the various blogs that discuss higher ed web development. In addition to the many members of this site that have their own blog, their are many other sites/blogs that provide excellent information for higher ed web professionals. I would also like to see only blog posts relevent to higher ed. So I have two questions for you:

1. Is this a good idea?
2. How could we create this aggregated feed?

1. It sounds like a good idea for you.
2. Any number of ways. I'd suggest the Yahoo Pipes.
I agree.. the simplest way would be to create a Yahoo! Pipe http://pipes.yahoo.com
Here's a pipe: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=xhvqt3jP3BGsSvWCjtzu1g

Might need some refinement, but if anyone uses it let me know if its working ok..

It brings in the most recent from groups, blogs and fourms.
Chris, just to clarify, what have you included in this pipe? I'd like to add this feed to the main page of the site to includes all the latest activity. Right now, the "latest activity" feed in the left margin includes new members, new comments and new content (except the group forums). Some people have asked for this functionality.

I'm also looking forward to the aggregate feed that will be coming later this week from www.bloghighed.org.
It aggregates the 6 feeds I could find on this site:

Activity
Forums
Profiles
Photos *just added
Videos * just added
Pages * just added
I believe that the Activity feed should include everything you listed above with the possible exception of the Profiles. What's missing are the feeds from each of the individual groups. Right now there are 19 groups. Can you add each of these to the pipe? The challenge will be paying attention to see when an additional groups has been created and then adding that groups feed to pipe. If you can do this, I will replace the current "Latest Activity" section on the main page with your feed. Thanks for doing this.
I agree with David about using Yahoo Pipes. We use it for some feeds on SMU's site.
Matt Herzberger and I have actually been working on this for about a month in our spare time, and we're just trying to get some kinks out of the system. The site is at www.bloghighed.org, and should be live within a week or so.

We've started compiling a list of higher ed blogs to aggregate, but if anyone would like to be considered, just reply here and we'll get a list started!
Great! Let me know when it's live.
Cool Brad. Let me know if you guys need any help.
Just an update - we should be live by the end of the week.

Archived magazine stories

Greetings,What are you all doing online with "old" magazine stories? Do you delete issues after so  many years? 5 years? 10? I'm torn between keeping all on for historical purposes or keeping just a few years online to simplify the site (ala Gerry McGovern.) Curious as to what you see best practices being.ThanksSara KisseberthBluffton Universitywww.bluffton.eduSee More
