We have implemented SharePoint for our faculty/staff portal and a new student portal. IT feels that since we are using SP for these two portals that the next logical step would be to use it for our main Web site as well. I will admit that I am not a SP fan, it might be fine for a portal environment but I have doubts about using it as a full-scale CMS. I could sit here and list at least 20 reasons why this would be a bad idea but I'd rather hear what you guys think :)
Can you please share your feelings about using SharePoint as a CMS for a 10,000 page Web site currently using a home-grown CMS with over 100 editors. We also need a system which can easily change templates and use templates developed outside of the CMS (templates from an outside vendor probably created in Dreamweaver). We also need a system which has multi-leveled approval processes.
What do you think? Is SharePoint up to this type of a challenge? thanks -- vicki
