When I'm designing or tweaking our calendars, I always get a little flustered when it comes to calendar icons. You choices consist of the tiny little grid:
and the "tear-off" calendar:

And good luck to you if you want to customize it somehow for, say, a favicon. It's already stuffed with detail just trying to be recognizable at that size, and if you're a ham-fisted Photoshopper like I am, you're going to make a muddle of it.
