It's been a long week for me and well worth it! Attending my first edu Web Conference allowed me to talk to other colleagues in the educational system.
I've never felt so excited about a conference in my life, perhaps it is due to not being able to go in about 8+ years? Well I've been working at CCBC for 10 years, although eight of those ten have been working on the college's website. :D
What I took away from the conference:
- If technology is out there, for FREE, make use of it.
I'ts going on 9 a.m. EST, I'm sipping my coffee and have nothing else to come up with. :/
I feel empowered to accomplish what Butler, UB and so many other colleges and universities have implemented. I notice the only obstacles are IT and having backing from the higher ups.
I've actually wanted to implement Wordpress, so our president could actually blog -- discussing her day, what issues are important, other things. Even if she blogs about her pets, doesn't matter to me, as long as it's real to the students.
I thought Brad's idea to hire students to blog and answer posts, if I heard him correctly, was an awesome idea. It's a great way to network with our customers, the students, and build relationships that will impact others.
I like the idea of Content Management Officer (CMO) (?) I think I remembered that correctly. We are eventually going to hire a Content editor, but that is a while since we're still going through a re-org. Gotta love the re-orgs! :D yay!
